This is information, not advice

Immigration Guide is a publication. It describes how visa sponsorship, lending, banking and renting generally work in several countries. It does not advise you on your case, and it cannot, because it does not know your immigration history, your qualifications, your credit file or your tax residence.

No adviser-client relationship is created by reading this site or by emailing us.

Immigration advice is regulated

Giving immigration advice is a regulated activity in both countries most of these guides concern.

In the United Kingdom, immigration advice may only be given by someone registered with the Immigration Advice Authority, or by a solicitor, barrister or legal executive regulated by their own professional body.

In the United States, it may only be given by a licensed attorney or by a representative accredited by the Department of Justice. Anyone else doing it is engaged in unauthorised practice of law, and "notario" services that claim otherwise have caused serious harm to people who trusted them.

We are not regulated in either country. Nothing here is immigration advice, and anyone who tells you they can guarantee you a visa, a job offer or an approval in exchange for a fee should be treated with suspicion.

Figures go out of date

Salaries, visa fees, loan rates, down payment requirements and rents change, sometimes within weeks. Every guide carries the date it was checked. Treat any figure as accurate on that date and unverified since.

Where a figure describes what the market typically does rather than what a rule requires, it is an estimate. Lenders, employers and landlords each set their own terms and are not bound by what is typical.

Lender and employer policies are not rules

Much of what people are told when they move countries is one organisation's policy presented as a legal requirement. A refusal from one lender, one landlord or one employer is information about that organisation, not about your eligibility generally.

Financial matters

Nothing here is financial, investment, mortgage or tax advice, and no product mentioned is recommended to you personally. Borrowing has consequences, currency moves, and investments can fall in value. Speak to a regulated adviser before committing money.

No guarantees

We do not guarantee that any job described here is available, that any employer will sponsor you, that any lender will approve you, or that any outcome described will be yours.

Check the source

Every important decision should be checked against the government department, regulator or lender that actually sets the rule. Where a guide names that source, go to it.
